“Architecture is really about well-being. I think that people want to feel good in a space…
On the one hand it’s about shelter, but it’s also about pleasure.”

The Process

Programming Phase

Programming is the activity of determining the set of needs that a building needs to fulfill. The programming phase is also an important time to understand the limitations of our build through the planning and zoning code.

Schematic Design Phase

After establishing the program for a project and understanding code limitations, the focus in the architectural design process shifts from what the problems are to how to solve those problems. During schematic design, the focus is the overall high-level design.

Design Development Phase

During the design development phase of the architectural design process, the scheme is refined into the final design. It becomes important to give individual attention to each aspect, each space and each detail of the project.

Construction Document Phase

At this stage of the architectural design process, the focus shifts from design to communicating the design and providing all information necessary for permitting and construction.

Every detail gets considered at this point and every attempt is made to incorporate details into the drawings prior to construction. Engineers and other designers are brought on board to bring every detail necessary together to get the project done.  The goal is to not only get a building permit but also have all the information ready for a contractor to give an accurate bid.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

As you meet new potential clients, I am sure they will be wondering the same thing I was when I first met you....are you right for me/my project?

As far as I’m concerned, you are the best! Without you, I am sure I would have opted to move houses over embarking on a remodel. You have kept things together and when others flaked, came in overbid, or offered suggestions that simply did not make sense. You were there as the voice of reason, pointing me in the right direction and helping me stay true to the project goals and budget.

Among all the folks who crossed my front door, and there have been many, you are the one who put me first. You genuinely care about my goals and never once made me feel bad or crazy when I offered creative and sometimes absurd solutions to challenges that arose due to the unique location of our home. Your patience is something to be admired and the care you invest in making sure I am comfortable and informed does not go unnoticed.

Beyond your finesse in managing both clients and contractors, I love how you see what is good about my home. When others wanted to change it, you saw the beauty in what existed and started with ways to enhance its beauty rather than the easier option of starting from scratch. That said, if we were starting from scratch, there is no one I would rather do that with either because you have such a wide breadth of experience from new builds to remodels and I will call on you first either way.

I am grateful for your talent, humility, perseverance, and understanding. I think anyone who works with you will be lucky to have you leading their project.

Thank you always,

— Andrea Malis
